"Enough Light for Today" - 11/02/2026

After yesterday’s All Saints message, I’d like to stay with one question: what does it mean to leave something in God’s care? It’s easy to say, but a little harder when we’re looking at everything coming up this week. Maybe you know that feeling too.
Scripture
“Give us today our daily bread.”
- Matthew 6:11 (NIV)
Reflection
An unanswered message can take up a lot of a morning. The phone is checked again. A possible reply is imagined, then another. There are things to do, but part of the mind keeps returning to the conversation that has not happened yet.
Waiting can be tiring that way. So can looking ahead. Even a fairly manageable week can feel heavy when all its demands are carried at once.
In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus teaches his followers to ask for daily bread. There is no need to apologize for being hungry, or for needing the same help again tomorrow. Asking is part of the prayer.
The word today is worth pausing over. What is actually needed today? Sometimes it is a decision. Sometimes it is enough patience to leave a decision alone until more is known. Telling the difference is not always easy.
A list may help. So may a conversation with someone trustworthy. Prayer belongs among these small, practical things, even when it does not make the worry go away. A concern can be named before God without finding an answer before the prayer ends.
There may still be a message to send or an appointment to prepare for. Trust does not make those responsibilities disappear. But perhaps the next task can be done without also trying to settle everything that might follow it.
By evening, some things will probably remain unfinished. Tomorrow’s page will still be there. God will be there too. For now, the prayer asks for bread for this day, including whatever is needed to live through the parts that cannot yet be worked out.
Prayer
Faithful God, meet us in the day that is here. Give us what we need for its work, its waiting, and its unexpected turns. Loosen the worry that sends our minds too far ahead. Teach us to prepare with care and rest in your mercy when something remains unfinished. Through Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray. Amen.
